CS Professional Paper 4 - Elective 1

Under the ICSI New Syllabus 2022, CS Professional carries two elective papers rather than the single elective of the old syllabus. Elective 1 is Paper 4 in Group 1, and you choose one of six options at the time of enrolment.

The six options

• 4.1 CSR & Social Governance - Section 135, CSR committees, project selection and impact assessment, social stock exchange
• 4.2 Internal & Forensic Audit - internal audit standards, fraud detection and investigation, digital forensics
• 4.3 Intellectual Property Rights - Law & Practice - trademarks, patents, copyright, designs, registration and enforcement
• 4.4 Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics and Cyber Security - Laws & Practice - IT Act, data protection, AI governance and cyber risk
• 4.5 Advanced Direct Tax Laws & Practice - assessment, appeals, international taxation and transfer pricing
• 4.6 IFSCA - Regulations, Listing and Compliances - the GIFT City framework and IFSC entity compliance

Choosing well

• Pick for your intended practice area, not for perceived easiness - the elective often shapes the first role you are offered
• IPR and CSR are the most self-contained; Advanced Direct Tax overlaps heavily with the tax you already know but is amendment-sensitive
• AI & Cyber Security and IFSCA are the newest options with the thinnest question banks, which cuts both ways - less past-paper guidance, but examiners tend to stay close to the study material
