What Is CA Foundation and Who Is It For?

CA Foundation is the entry-level exam of the Chartered Accountancy programme, conducted three times a year by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. CA Foundation Accounting Classes

Paper 1 is the backbone of CA Foundation and the paper most students from a commerce background come in feeling most confident about. It covers the double entry system, depreciation, partnership accounts, company accounts, and basic Accounting Standards. For students who have studied Accounts in Class 11 and 12, much of the early content will feel familiar, but ICAI's questions go significantly deeper on partnership reconstitution, branch accounts, and company account preparation than anything covered in school.

Paper 2 covers the Indian Contract Act 1872, the Sale of Goods Act 1930, the Indian Partnership Act 1932, and the Limited Liability Partnership Act 2008. It is a subjective paper, which means you are writing answers, not selecting from options. The key thing most students underestimate about Business Law is how much the exact language of your answer matters. ICAI's suggested answers follow specific legal phrasing, and examiners reward answers that mirror this language.

CA Foundation Quantitative Aptitude Classes

Paper 3 covers Business Mathematics, Logical Reasoning, and Statistics. It is a 100-question MCQ paper with negative marking, which changes the strategy significantly. You have two hours for 100 questions, just over a minute per question, and a wrong answer costs you a quarter mark. This means speed and accuracy have to be built together, not traded off against each other.

Students who have studied Economics in Class 11 and 12 will find the basic concepts familiar, but ICAI's questions go deeper on application, equilibrium analysis, elasticity calculations, and national income measurement than school-level Economics tests.
